Plant lights often found on the market are either clumsy or heavy-looking tunings, too weak for anything other than small seedlings, or pink in color (because the blue and red wavelengths are amplified). At home, instead of buying blue-red light for houseplants, you should invest in good-quality general lighting with a high CRI, i.e. color rendering index, in the light of which everyone feels comfortable. With a CRI value of at least 95, the lamp reproduces well the blue and red wavelengths needed by plants, but at the same time it is also suitable for lighting the entire home. From LedStore's selection, LED spots, LED panels and LED strips with a good CRI value, i.e. more than 95, are generally suitable for LED plant lights, depending on the installation location and the need. The hanging LED plant lamp FOKUS is a wonderful lamp for all types of plants. You won't find a more versatile, efficient and stylish kitchen lamp in Finland! Also suitable for demanding spot light use. The light is powerful enough to grow virtually any plant indoors, even without sunlight. Whether it's a lyre fig, banana tree, citrus or chili, the power of light is enough for even the most demanding plants, while maintaining an elegant aesthetic in your home. The light is also dimmable, so you can adjust the intensity of the light according to the age of the plant, for example (less for seedlings, more for full-grown ones). The lamp's 30 watt power offers a whopping 2700 lumens, which is equivalent to about 300 watts of halogen light, which in turn is the typical power of heavy plant lighting. The beam spreading angle can be adjusted between 10 and 55 degrees, so the lamp is suitable for both narrow and wide plants. With the lamp, you can choose between 5 different color temperatures from the switch on the top of the light (2700K-3100K-3700K-4100K-5800K). At home, for growing indoor plants, you usually use lamps that give pinkish light (where the blue-red wave frequency is stronger), but the high CRI or color rendering index in our FOKUS plant light ensures that the plant gets all the wavelengths it needs and the tone of the light is pleasantly clean, and even selectable! The lamp must be hung, and its color options are black or white. 

Here is a list of the PPFD and lux values ​​of the light at different distances when the light angle of the light is set to 55 degrees wide: 

100 cm = 150 µmol/s/m², 8500 lux

50 cm = 300 µmol/s/m², 17000 lux

Closer than 50 cm, the light covers less than 1 m², so the following figures are measured from a 50 cm wide area:

20 cm = 750 µmol/s/m², 42000 lux

Growing plants and their light needs

In plant lighting, the amount of light (PPFD, Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density) is very important. In general, 200-400 µmol/m²/s is recommended for growing flowers and other plants, depending on the plant species and growth stage. The quality of light, especially the right spectrum, is crucial for healthy plant growth. Fortunately, our LED plant light FOKUS produces an almost perfect light spectrum, color rendering CRI 97! And you can change the tone of the light with a switch.

Examples of the light needs of typical plants: 

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)

Tomatoes need plenty of light to produce fruit efficiently. Their light requirement is around 15,000 - 25,000 lux. This means that they often need strong plant light, especially in Finland's dark months.

Herbs such as basil (Ocimum basilicum) and parsley (Petroselinum crispum)

Herbs grow well in light between 5,000 and 15,000 lux. A windowsill or a lighter plant light is often suitable for them. They generally don't require as much light as fruit-producing plants.

Salads such as arugula (Eruca vesicaria) and lettuce

Lettuce thrives in 10,000 to 15,000 lux. They grow quickly and can produce crops even in lower light, but bright light is recommended for optimal growth and freshness.

Chillies and peppers (Capsicum spp.)

Like tomatoes, chilies and peppers require plenty of light, typically 20,000 to 30,000 lux. Strong light is essential for the ripening of their fruits and the development of their colors.

Orchids (Orchidaceae)

The light requirement of orchids depends on the species, but many common houseplant orchids grow well in 10,000 to 20,000 lux light. Orchids are sensitive to too strong light, so their lighting should be regulated carefully. 

By growing vegetables indoors, you can get fresh food all year round

Windowsills, kitchen counters, flower stands, tables - any location above which you can place the FOKUS plant light is a good place for growing vegetables. Cultivating indoors is no more difficult than outdoors, and harvesting your own grown crop is a great feeling. In Nordic countries, plants get sunny hours most of the time - especially if you plan to grow vegetables somewhere other than on the window. From March to April, daylight on the windowsill might be enough for the plants, but in the winter season there is too little light in the window. Energy efficiency of LED plant lights

LED plant lights have become popular for growing seedlings in the last few years, among other things, because they don't heat up as much as energy-saving lamps, not to mention incandescent bulbs. Good LED lamps are also more energy efficient than energy saving lamps or fluorescent tubes.
