What does a smart home cost - Tuya?
Building a smart home is easier and cheaper than ever. Tuya Smart offers a wide range of smart devices that make managing your home smooth and cost-effective. But what does a smart home cost when you choose Tuya-compatible products? We'll go through what the different components cost and how you can build a smart home to fit your budget.
What is Tuya and why choose it?
Tuya Smart is a global smart home platform that supports thousands of different devices and manufacturers. It allows you to connect smart lights, security systems, temperature control, curtain motors and more into a single ecosystem. Tuya devices usually work over WiFi or Zigbee and do not require separate monthly fees.
What do the Tuya smart home components cost?
The price of a smart home is influenced by many factors, including the equipment you choose, the technologies (in this case Tuya) and the installation requirements. Below are examples of common smart home solutions and their costs.
1. Tuya compatible smart lighting
- Zigbee smart light bulbs (CCT): €30/each
- Temperature-controlled LED strip lights in aluminium profile with controls: €80-150 per metre
- Temperature-controlled LED spotlights with controls: 60 - 100 € / piece
Tuya intelligent lighting allows for lighting timing, automation and colour temperature control. The price depends on the number and characteristics of the luminaires selected. LedStore has more than ten different types of temperature adjustable LED strips and 40 different mounting profiles. Therefore, the price range is very wide. Please note that the price per meter also includes a Zigbee transformer.
2. Security systems and cameras
- Tuya Zigbee motion sensor: 40 - 60 €

A smart security system improves home security and enables real-time alerts and remote monitoring.
3. Temperature control

The thermostats help you save energy either through scheduled, automated or manual actions directly from the appliance and the App.
4. Smart curtain solutions
- Motorised curtain rack 1.2 - 5.2m: €400

5. Smart screens and control buttons
- Smart screens for whole-home control with Hub: €300-900
- HUB alone: 100 € / piece

Smart displays allow you to control your home from one central location, including the heart of your smart home, the Hub/Gateway. Smart screens range from small to large, with different features. You can build a Smart Home really cheaply using just a HUB and wireless wall switches.
6. Wired and wireless audio
- Bluetooth speaker that can be integrated into the structure: €140/each
- Standard integratable speaker: €100/each
These are not really smart devices, but sound is part of the smart home. Bluetooth speakers allow you to place the speakers where you want them, without having to run speaker wires from the smart screen to the speaker. The Bluetooth speaker unit (master) has room for up to 3 additional speakers (slave), creating a stereo pair of 4 speakers in the space. Note that the Bluetooth speaker requires power (transformer included), while the standard (slave) integrated speaker is an add-on to any amplifier or smart screen with a 2x25W stereo amplifier.
What all is needed for a Tuya smart home?
As mentioned, the Tuya smart home can be compact or large, growing with the house if necessary. Here's a look at what's included in the envisioned package.
While the Tuya smart home is easy to build and customise thanks to its wireless connectivity, building a smart home still requires planning.
With or without cabling?
A Tuya smart home construction project can avoid unnecessary cable pulls. Here's a table that easily shows the wiring needs of different devices.

Please note that battery/battery powered devices do not require any wiring and can be installed anywhere. Devices that charge with a USB-C connector can be connected to a continuous charge. Plug-in devices naturally require 230V.

Functions of the smart home
We have made an example for a new building where we wanted all the functions of a smart home. The site is a detached house of about 150 square metres. The functions include:
- Intelligent, temperature-controlled LED lighting throughout the house. The lighting can be adjusted according to the mood or the sun.
- For young people, RGB light in the rooms in addition to the normal light, to suit the mood.
- Light sensors and automate lighting according to the amount of light.
- Motion sensors to control lights in bypass areas and indicate the presence in the room.
- An IR transmitter in the living room to control the TV and heat pump by copying the remote controls to the smart home and automation.
- Easy to install, rechargeable motors on the roller blinds for easy curtain control.
- Intelligent floor heating thermostat in wet rooms and toilets providing energy saving heating and drying of the floor.
- Leak detector in kitchen cabinets and at dishwasher/laundry machine to warn of water damage.
- A ball valve motor shuts off the main valve if necessary, cutting off the water supply to the house in the event of an alarm.
- Exterior doors are secured by smart locks, as well as continuously recording cameras. In addition, the main door has a video doorbell for monitoring guests.
- The living room, the washroom+under the sink and the kitchen have their own music areas. Music on the premises (Spotify*) is controlled from smart screens or mobile phones.
Smart screens and buttons
The site considered where to place the smart screens and what they should control.
Living room. This largest display, the Tuya MAX10, controls four Bluetooth (master + 3x slave) speakers in the ceiling. At the same time, it provides an easy view of the cameras and doorbell on the large screen. The doorbell sends a 2-way audio with video when the doorbell is pressed.
Kitchen: the smart screen is located on an island in the wall. This large screen, MAX8 audio, controls the speakers in the kitchen ceiling (2 x slave wired), and from here you can control everything from the living room screen if required.
Washroom+Sauna: PH in the wall. The same MAX8 audio as in the kitchen controls the speakers (2 x slave wired) on the PH ceiling and under the ceiling in the sauna, and from here you can control everything as from the other large screens. For example, if someone presses the doorbell in the sauna?
Children's bedrooms:, These rooms have Smart S screens. These were chosen because the screens support a freely customizable control panel and are small, but most importantly the screens can be used to make intercom calls from the kitchen... Dinner time?
Parents' bedroom: the Smart Mini screen was chosen because the room has its own heat pump and possibly a TV underneath it on the wall. The Smart Mini includes an IR transmitter to control the heat pump, making it easy to automate temperature control. In addition, the display has 3 built-in 200W relays, one of which is handy for controlling the light in the wardrobe. The other two buttons are programmable for Morning and Evening situations (Morning lights on and curtains open, Evening curtains closed and mood lighting...)
Other spaces. These can be used to store, for example, situations next to the front door in the HOME/OUTDOOR which can be freely modified, for example, to turn on the lights in the corridor all the way to the kitchen or to turn off all the lights in the house and turn off the water valve.

Smart home price - Tuya components and lighting
What does it cost?. Here we have listed all the components for a smart home of about 150m2 and arrive at a total of 8700€. Note that this includes EVERYTHING you need for a smart home, including recording cameras, sensors and smart screen. So many of the components are left out of the electrical contract, and thanks to wireless, you save on electrical work.

The table shows clearly the prices of the products and you can calculate for yourself what you want and what you don't want. So the price will drop significantly (-3000.00€) if the smart screens are abandoned and everything is controlled only by scene buttons.
How much does it cost to light up a Tuya smart home?
Here is the cost of a temperature-controlled lighting system for a home of about 150m2. The total cost for adjustable lighting with controls is about 10000,00€.
